FSCJ will be closed for spring break from Monday, March 17 – Sunday, March 23, 2025. We look forward to serving you when we return on March 24.
“We decided that we should do this together as a college community and invite everyone to come. There are students from Florida State College, University of North Florida, Flagler University, and Jacksonville University,” says Patrick Miko, Art Professor at Florida State College.
The process involved carving an image into a piece of wood. Students then coated the blocks with ink, and used various types of fabric to transfer the image. Since most presses are too small for wood blocks, Professor Miko brought in a steamroller to cover the large cuts.
“Printmaking is fun enough as it is, but being told you are going to be able to do something and we are going to get heavy machinery, that’s awesome,” says Brittany Gorelick, Florida State College Student.
The event created a valuable alliance between educators and students, as well as inspired creativity to those in attendance.
“It’s a melting pot. Let students collaborate, and see what other people are doing in other areas, and have an open environment, and let the student and the artist express themselves,” says Miko.
