In March, the leadership of Florida Community College at Jacksonville unveiled the 43-year-old school’s new name. With an enthusiastic and unanimous vote of its District Board of Trustees in front of a packed conference room at the College’s Cecil Center, Florida State College at Jacksonville was born.the College remain the same. Following is a note from James F. Bailey, Jr. publisher of the Daily Record, on the occasion of the former FCCJ welcoming students for its first semester as Florida State College at Jacksonville.

In my 35 years as Publisher of the Daily Record, I see the opportunities we have, and the challenges this city faces. One thing that has always been consistent is the quality and value of the contributions made by Florida Community College at Jacksonville to the growth and economic stability of our community.

Over the years, I have watched as Florida Community College at Jacksonville has evolved to become Florida State College at Jacksonville, to fulfill a special mission as a premiere learning institution and become Jacksonville’s icon for producing graduates who are trained and prepared for work.

Professionals who recruit new companies and good jobs to Northeast Florida will tell you that education is the foundation for success. That’s why our community’s partnership with Florida State College at Jacksonville is so important. The new state college provides training options and trained workers who can fill the newly created jobs.

Looking to the future, nothing will be more important to Jacksonville than the continuing strength of Florida State College at Jacksonville and its contributions to our economic growth. --
