Oct. 19, 3-4:30 p.m. UNIQUE FOOD SAFETY TESTING LAB. Grand opening of the Eurofins Analytical Food Safety Testing Center, an on-site 1,700 sq.ft. laboratory at the Florida State College Advanced Technology Center. Biotechnology students will work side-by-side with Eurofins Scientific staff in a real-world environment as part of their curriculum. Eurofins provided the design and equipment for the Eurofins portion of the lab, along with the sterilizer for the shared facility. Eurofins will help train students through classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory practice. Eurofins will also provide internships to students. An amazing partnership of industry, government and academia. Program funded by a National Science Foundation grant. COOL VISUAL ALERT: Tour the lab. Microbiology. DNA sequencer. DuPont Vax System. Oct. 19, 7 p.m. "Women in the Muslim World," Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts, South Campus, 11901 Beach Blvd., 7 p.m. What do you think you know about Women in the Muslim World? Roya Falahi-Kharaghani, Ph.D., professor of Anthropology, Sociology, and Women’s Studies at Joliet Junior College, is willing to share what she knows with the public and media. She has presented scholarly work at national and international conferences such as the Society for Anthropology in Community Colleges, the American Association of Behavioral and Social Sciences; The “Oxford Roundtable” at Oxford University, England; Ledge University in Poland; Ireland’s National University in Galway; University of Tehran, College of European and North American Studies, Iran. She knows A LOT. She will share it Tues. Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets available at campus student activities offices. Save the date: Grand Opening of the Veteran Center for Career Re-entry, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. Florida State College at Jacksonville, Urban Resource Center, 601 W. State Street. A celebration of a new center designed to provide student veterans aged 20-24 with educational programs and support services. Grant funded by the Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration. Entertainment begins at 2:30; Color Guard will begin the event. Bring your cameras.
