Coming Up: Literacy, Diesel Trucks and Veterans
North Campus is hosting a Literacy Fair this Saturday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Free books, free actvities and even free lunch for attendees. About 1,500 are expected to attend. This is new: Winn-Dixie is donating a diesel tractor to the Diesel Technology program in early October 2010. Students in the program will benefit from hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing this work horse, of which there are thousands on the road. With the shipping terminal underway for completion in 2014, there will be many more on the road. Look here for details coming up.
Have an interest in the military and veterans? So do we. Florida State College at Jacksonville is a huge provider of education and training to the military and to veterans. Coming up Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. is the grand opening of the Florida State College at Jacksonville Veterans Center for Career Re-entry. This eases the transition between military and civilian life for those recently separated from the military. Services provided include access to education, workshops, support services, assistance with job searches and placement.
