The Florida State College Women’s Volleyball team won the Gulf District Finals at the Region VIII Championships. This qualifies the team for the National Championships in West Plains, Missouri, to be held Nov. 18, 19 and 20, 2010. This is the first time in 22 years that the team has qualified to play in the National Tournament. Are they excited? You betcha. You going to watch? You can if you go to www.PSBlive.com at noon (EST) on Nov. 18. You want to interview Coach Mary Andrew? Call me.
The award-winning drama “The Women of Lockerbie” makes its North Florida premiere Nov. 18 at the Wilson Center on South Campus, and runs through Nov. 21. This will be a complete convergence of artists. Actors and technicians are putting the final touches on the show, including Set Designer Johhny Pettegrew. His sets, no matter how extravagant or how simple the show, are always works of art on their own merit, but never overshadowing the story, the place, the action. Director Ken McCulough challenges and entertains audiences with edgy play selections and always brings out the best in his actors. Playwright Deborah Brevoort will leave her New York City home to attend the Nov. 19 performance and host a discussion with the audience and cast immediately after the show. Brevoort will also be a phone-in guest on Nov. 17 on First Coast Connect on WJCT 89.9, at 9 a.m. with host Melissa Ross. The drama, based on events in the aftermath of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988, deals in part with a very real contemporary fear.
