COOL VISUAL ALERTS. Things you should know, October 3-10, 2010. Especially if you're media.

Oct. 3: About 1,000 alumni from Florida State College at Jacksonville, University of North Florida, Jacksonville University and University of Phoenix gathered together in a show of collegial support at the first-ever Alumni Tailgate and Game Day Experience to watch the Jaguard beat the Colts at Everbank Stadium! Get the story and see the images by clicking the Foundation tab.

Oct. 4. Winn-Dixie handed over the keys to a 2000 Volvo truck tractor they are donating to Florida Coast Career Tech's Heavy Truck and Bus Technician program. Winn-Dixie Regional Vice President Dan Lefever join Florida State College at Jacksonville President Steven Wallace and students, along with other W-D and College officials, in a short ceremony, key exchange and reception. Visuals to come!

Oct. 11-15. It's Virtual Job Fair time again. Local unemployment is more than 11 percent last time I looked, but WorkSource and Florida State College at Jacksonville are offering the fourth Virtual Job Fair this year to make it easy for employers with jobs to connect with prospective employees. The VJF is hailed by employers and job-seekers alike, with praise for the convenience, cost-savings, and ease it brings to the process of filling jobs, no matter which side of the desk--or laptop--you're sitting on. Dates are Oct. 11 beginning at midnight and running 24/7 until Oct. 15 at 11:59 p.m. Check it out at www.worksourcefl.com. MEDIA: Now taking requests for your morning show or other news reports with previous VJF participants.

Oct. 6. Need some help getting your resume ready for the Virtual Job Fair or any other job pursuit? Downtown Campus Career Development Center is holding a Resume Clinic Wed. Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Lobby of Building A, 101 w. State St. It's free, it's open to the public and it's a walk-in clinic. COOL VISUAL ALERT: Resume Doctors Brent Brown, Carl Brewer and Alan Pasetti (IN LAB COATS) will examine your resume, check it for vital signs, determine a diagnosis and prescribe proven remedies for whatever might be ailing it. Interview opportunities with job seekers. Brewer and Brown were instrumental in creating the Virtual Job Fair Handbook and they can all help get your resume in the best shape it's ever been. It's a fun approach to an important task.

Oct. 7. The Aircraft Services Educational Facility at Cecil Field will test the foam fire protection system on Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m. This one-of-a-kind facility is the joint project of Florida State College at Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Aviation Authority. What you'll see is thousands of square feet of hangar space suddenly covered by three feet of foam exploding out of 36 strategically placed foam generators. Quite the visual. And quite necessary to keep workers and property safe in the event of a fire in the 76,000 + sq. ft. aviation maintenance, rework and overhaul facility. You'll also see a demo of the hangar doors--the newest thing in the hangar door biz. These are fabric doors but can withstand hurricane winds up to 140 m.p.h. You've never seen doors open the way I'm told these doors are supposed to. MEDIA FRIENDS--you need to see this foam test. If it's ever really needed you probably won't be able to get near it.
