College Goal Sunday 2012 helps students get into college and helps pay for it with scholarships

The state-wide College Goal Sunday program is designed to assist families in applying for Pell Grants by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The program is coordinated by the Florida Association of State Financial Aid Administrators and founded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc., through the Lumina Foundation for Education. In Nassau County, 70 high school seniors and their families attended. Eight Nassau County high school seniors won drawings for scholarships totaling $12,000. Scholarships were provided by University of North Florida, Jacksonville University and Florida State College at Jacksonville. (Figures for Duval County attendance and schlarships awarded are not presently available.) Florida State College Director of Recruitment Kevin Cotton spoke with reporters from both WTEV CBS and WJXT, explaining how the colleges unite in their  commitment to making access to college a priority for Northeast Florida--and hosting College Goal Sunday to help.
