A six month report from Dr. Bioteau

Nov 1, 2022, 10:58 AM
Dr. Bioteau spoke with the Editorial Board about her first six months as President of FSCJ. Discussed our ongoing strategic planning process, new state statutes and the continued progress with our financial aid processes.

Cynthia Bioteau offered to visit the Times-Union's editorial board to give a report on her first six months as president of Florida State College at Jacksonville.

She makes no bones that fixing the college's financial aid services has been a major issue. In response, she shut down the financial aid office and hired an outside company that specializes in this work. So far, results have been good.

In that same vein, she is focusing the college on its core mission, what it does well. Thus, a school for high school dropouts was closed because there are better programs locally, she said.

She also was heartened by a recent positive report on reaccreditation, which she credits to all the hardworking people at FSCJ. They did not allow the administrative challenges to hold them down.

She is making  a point to visit the college's farflung campuses to spread the message. Get on the energy train, she advises staff.
