JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — JEA is moving forward with a flex pricing program in 5,000 households that take peak hour usage into consideration.
It's been studied by the company for years and will take effect on June 1. First Coast News spoke with Florida State College of Jacksonville business professor Justin Bateh about the pricing plan that has been likened to ride-sharing services.
“If you are able to adjust, and are open and flexible, then you can look toward getting the best price,” he said.
The idea is nothing new — utility companies across the county are implementing similar programs. JEA said it looked to Arizona, Texas and California as models.
