FSCJ BlueWave Softball to Host Exhibition Game versus Florida State University Softball
WHAT: Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) BlueWave Softball Team will host the 2018 NCAA National Champions Florida State University (FSU) Softball for an exhibition game.
FSCJ’s softball team is led by Head Coach Jan Sikes, who served as the assistant coach in the fall of 2017 and spring of 2018. She is a graduate of Paxon High School and played collegiately at Lake City Community College (now Gateway College) before continuing her softball career at FSU. While at FSU, she led the Seminoles in back-to-back National Championships (‘81 and ’82) by posting the most hits with batting averages of .477 and .471 respectively. She earned All-American, AIAW All-Regional and All-State Honors ('81 and '82) and was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2008.
“We look forward to a great season ahead and I can think of no better way to kick us off than by playing against the reigning national champions,” said Coach Sikes. “It goes without saying that FSU has a wonderful program and our players and staff consider it an honor to host them for this scrimmage game.”
Tickets will be available for purchase at the gate. The cost will be $5 per person. Children age 5 and under may attend for free. Seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
Following the game, FSU players and coaches will welcome fans for a meet and greet where they will be signing autographs and posing for photos.
“We are so excited to come over to Jacksonville and play an exhibition game versus FSCJ,” said FSU Head Softball Coach Lonni Alameda. “Our goal this fall is to start building our team for the 2019 season by playing great competition around the state of Florida. What an opportunity to start our fall journey at FSCJ.”
