JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) BlueWave Athletics has selected Jan Sikes for the softball team’s head coaching position. Coach Sikes previously served as the assistant coach in the fall of 2017 and spring of 2018.

She is a graduate of Paxon High School and played collegiately at Lake City Community College (now Gateway College) for the legendary Jean Williams, earning All-State honors both years before continuing her softball career at Florida State University. While at FSU, she led the Seminoles in back-to-back National Championships (‘81 and ’82) by posting the most hits with batting averages of .477 and .471 respectively. She earned All-American, AIAW All-Regional and All-State Honors ('81 and '82) and was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2008.

Prior to joining the BlueWave softball team, Coach Sikes was the head softball coach at Bishop John Snyder High School (2015-17) and was the director of softball development with North Florida Pride (USSSA). Prior to her stint at Bishop John Snyder, she coached at the Bolles School.

Coach Sikes graduated from FSU with a degree in criminology and supports women’s athletics at the university through an endowed softball scholarship. She currently sits on the Board of Directors as the chairman of the Florida State Varsity Club and is one of only two women to hold this position.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Sikes step into her new role as head coach of our softball team,” said FSCJ Director of Athletics Ginny Alexander. “Her experience and passion for the game is incomparable and we look forward to what is sure to be a great season ahead.”
