Florida State College at Jacksonville is restarting its men’s cross country program for the 2018-19 season, the athletic department announced Monday.

The sport becomes the seventh Blue Wave athletic program, joining men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and women’s cross country.

Jody Hale, who returned to the school last winter to head the relaunched women’s team, will also serve as men’s head coach.

Hale, a former assistant at the program from 1982 to 1995, also coached at Wolfson High School and St. Johns Country Day School.

The addition is the third change in sports offerings in slightly more than a year at the college, which added women’s cross country and dropped women’s tennis in June 2017.

FSCJ regularly contended in men’s cross country at the National Junior College Athletic Association championships from the 1960s to the 1980s, placing in the top 10 seven times. The program’s best finish at NJCAA finals was fourth in 1969, when the school was still known as Florida Junior College.
