JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) BlueWave Baseball and Men’s Cross Country Teams earned recognition in 2018-19 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Teams of the Year.

Out of 27 rostered student athletes on the baseball team, 23 players earned a 3.0 GPA or higher this past academic year, with a team average of 3.51, putting them in third place among all NJCAA baseball teams. Four players earned a 4.0 GPA: Jordan Briones (Stanton College Preparatory School, Jacksonville), Anthony Orrico (Santaluces Community High School, Boynton Beach), Dillon Richardson (Seminole High School, St. Petersburg) and Dalton Terrell (Trinity Christian Academy, Jacksonville).

BlueWave Men’s Cross Country, who just completed their first year as an FSCJ athletic team, was also named to the NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year. Together they placed 14th with an overall 3.14 GPA.

“We are proud of these student athletes for their exemplary dedication, both on and off the field,” said College President Dr. John Avendano. “To be named into the NJCAA’s Academic Teams of the Year is quite an honor and the athletes and coaching staff should be very proud.”

Each year, all NJCAA sports teams are invited to submit nominations of students with a 3.0 GPA or higher. To see the full list of all NJCAA programs who achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher, visit njcaa.org/general/2018-19/releases/20190701gjoewb.
