The Administrative & Professional Collaborative (APC) is the representative voice for the Administrative & Professional employees of FSCJ.

In an effort to build cohesiveness, awareness and collegiality, each month we put a “spotlight” on one of our members. April’s Administrative and Professional Collaborative spotlight shines on Dr. Nancy M. Sutton, interim associate dean of career education at Kent Campus.

With an undergraduate degree in history and a minor in secondary education, Nancy began her professional career as an eighth-grade social studies teacher in Brooklyn, New York. Nancy then pursued her childhood dream of attending law school, earning her Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law in 2003. 

With a passion to serve, Nancy accepted a position with Legal Service of Greater Miami, Inc. (LSGMI), in the Key West branch office. There, she served the indigent and elderly of Monroe County, representing clients in various civil matters. During her tenure at LSGMI, she quickly advanced to the role of directing attorney, supervising the branch office and its staff while maintaining a regular case load. 

In July 2009, with the ambition of combining her careers in education and law, Nancy moved to Jacksonville, where she opened her own law practice while seeking employment in higher education. In fall 2009, Nancy joined FSCJ as an adjunct instructor teaching in the paralegal studies program. A year later, Nancy was blessed with the full-time teaching position. In January 2012, she advanced to the position of instructional program manager and she has continued to serve in that role while also assuming her current interim role in September 2015. 

With the increasing administrative responsibilities, Nancy continues to focus on what is important – the students. Nancy thoroughly enjoys engaging and motivating her students to thrive for excellence, as she assists them from where they are to where they want to go. She is dedicated to providing students with the foundational knowledge and skills, as well as practical experiences. Similarly, she strives to support her faculty in doing the same.

Our spotlight shines on each campus/center at least once a year.  Nominations for the spotlight may be directed to your campus representative or any officer.
