Firefighter (C.C.)

The Firefighter Career Certificates prepare students for certification and initial employment as a firefighter in the state of Florida.

Program Overview

The Firefighter Career Certificate (C.C.) prepares students to meet the requirements for the State of Florida standards for Firefighter I/II.  The course provides fundamental information on fire department operations. Students are trained in the performance of the duties of a firefighter during both emergency and non-emergency operations. This training includes hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, wildland, ropes, ladders, and extinguishing fires. Upon successful completion of the program, students who meet all graduation requirements are eligible to test for the state certification exam with the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, which consists of a written and practical test.

Career Opportunities

In addition to community fire departments, there are opportunities in federal and state installations such as airports and small, private fire fighting companies. There is also a need for inspectors, investigators, forest rangers, and smoke jumpers. In all cases, employment is based on high test scores and outstanding skills.

Program Notice

Students may start FIREFIGHTER I (FFP0030) without EMT or paramedic certification but must have earned one of these certifications prior to starting FIREFIGHTER II (FFP0031). Students who hold an EMT or NREMT license will be given enrollment preference into FFP0030.
