FSCJ Celebrates 60 Years of Excellence in Education and Service

Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) proudly announces the celebration of its 60th anniversary, marking six decades of education, workforce development and service to the Northeast Florida community.

Founded in 1965 as Florida Junior College, FSCJ has grown from a single campus into one of the largest and most dynamic institutions in the Florida College System, serving more than 45,000 students annually through degree programs, workforce certifications and lifelong learning opportunities.

Over the past 60 years, FSCJ has remained committed to its mission to provide high-quality, affordable education while fostering innovation and economic growth across Duval and Nassau counties. The College has graduated more than 200,000 students, many of whom have gone on to make lasting contributions in business, health care, public service and the arts—locally and beyond.

“As we commemorate FSCJ’s 60th anniversary, we reflect on a rich legacy of academic excellence, community partnerships and life-changing opportunities,” said College President John Avendano, Ph.D. “We are incredibly proud of our past and even more excited about the future as we continue to evolve to meet the needs of our students and the communities we proudly serve.”

To celebrate this milestone, FSCJ will host a series of events throughout the 2025–26 academic year, both for the College and the community at-large. Some of the events are highlighted below:

• Panel Discussion: 60 Years of Impact and Inspiration
• Campus Community Days with holiday markets, health and wellness fairs, art showcases, and family activities
• Transforming Tomorrow Gala Celebrating 60 Years of Service
