"La Diaspora," an oil on canvas painting by artist Pedro Brull, who was born in Puerto Rico and now lives in Central Florida. The painting is part of an exhibit titled "La Diaspora" at Florida State College at Jacksonville's Downtown Campus Gallery.
“La Diaspora,” which features Puerto Rico-inspired paintings and sculptures by a group of artists in Central Florida, is now on exhibit at the Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Downtown Campus Gallery.
The exhibit comes on the heels of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration last weekend at The Jacksonville Landing.
It continues through Nov. 10.
“La Diaspora” consists of about 20 works by nine artists, said Pedro Brull, who organized the exhibit. It was curated by Yasir Nieves, who also has paintings in the exhibit.
All of the artists share a connection with Puerto Rico, he said, and strive to represent the island’s culture, traditions and history through their art in a variety of styles, from abstract to realism and more.
“They remain proud of their origin,” visual artist Angel Rivera-Morales, who is helping to promote the exhibit, wrote on the group’s website, “and will do their best to showcase to the world the art of ‘The Puerto Rican Diaspora,’ ”
The FSCJ Downtown Campus Gallery is located in Building A, Room 1202/1205, at 101 W. State St.
