On January 11, students with the Jacksonville Sister Cities Association (JCSA), Changwon City, South Korea Exchange Student Program visited the Urban Ag Project at Downtown Campus. In conjunction and collaboration with FSCJ's Center for International Education (CIE), Urban Ag hosted the students for a tour and demonstration of the classroom and lab spaces.
The JSCA is a member of Sister Cities International, which was formed in 1956 by President Dwight David Eisenhower. Their mission is to “promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, & cooperation – one individual, one community at a time.” Their motto is "Peace Through People" and they strive to achieve this daily. At JSCA, they all share a common goal, to create and nurture partnerships between citizens in Jacksonville and those in the eight Sister Cities:
Jacksonville has had an active sister city program since 1967, and has three "Friendship City" relationships, which are partnerships that are less formal and more limited in scope:
