User Experience and Responsive Design
FSCJ websites must work across modern desktop, tablet and mobile devices. Responsive behavior should be designed and tested, not treated as a desktop layout that merely shrinks.
UX expectations
- Put the most important task or information near the top of the page.
- Use clear calls to action with verbs that describe the result, such as 'Apply to FSCJ' or 'View Program Details.'
- Keep paragraphs concise and use headings and lists to support scanning.
- Avoid unnecessary modals, pop-ups and interruptions.
- Make touch targets large enough to activate comfortably on mobile devices.
- Prevent horizontal scrolling at common viewport widths.
- Do not hide essential content or functionality only because the visitor is using a mobile device.
- Preserve user-entered information when practical if validation fails.
