Content Management
Accuracy and timeliness
Content should be current, useful and owned. Pages that cannot be maintained should be simplified, consolidated or removed.
- Review high-risk content such as deadlines, tuition/fees, admissions steps, contact information and program requirements on a defined schedule.
- Remove expired alerts, events and promotional content promptly.
- Check links regularly and repair or remove broken destinations.
- When staff change roles, update directories, biographies, contact blocks and other references across the site.
- Clearly identify archival information that must remain available for historical reference.
Writing for the web
- Lead with the information visitors need most.
- Use plain language and define unavoidable academic or technical terms.
- Prefer short sentences and short paragraphs.
- Use bullets for scanable sets of related items, but do not turn every paragraph into a list.
- Write descriptive headings that help visitors predict the content below.
- Use active voice and action-oriented language.
- Avoid internal jargon, unexplained abbreviations and organizational shorthand.
