Newly hired full-time and regular part-time Career employees shall serve a probationary period for not less than one (1) year, in accordance with APM 03-1102 (Employee Probationary Period). Probationary employees should receive training, coaching, mentoring, and feedback from their supervisors frequently, during this time.

The employee shall receive a performance review at six (6) months and prior to their twelve (12) month probationary period ending. The probationary reviews serve to assist supervisors in assessing whether they will continue the employee’s assignment before the probationary period ends. Supervisors are strongly encouraged to consult with ER if a probationary employee is not meeting expectations prior to the end of the probationary period.

Supervisors must contact ER if they plan to terminate an employee’s employment before the end of the probationary period or want to extend an employee’s probation beyond the initial 12-month period.
