Why is the College undertaking this initiative/project?

The Office of Human Resources is launching this comprehensive review of the College’s classification and salary index structure to ensure position titles and descriptions accurately reflect responsibilities and the compensation is internally equitable and competitive within employment markets. 

What is the timeline for the CARE project?

There are four phases of the project:

  • Phase 1 – Employee Orientation Sessions and completion of PDQs.
  • Phase 2 – Gallagher Consultants will review and analyze PDQs.
  • Phase 3 – Gallagher Consultants will analyze total compensation to labor market.
  • Phase 4 – Gallagher Consultants to develop final report.

What are the designated outcomes for the CARE Project?

 

To ensure jobs are classified, titled and described appropriately and meet FLSA guidelines; ensure pay is competitive and equitably structured; and develop policies and procedures to maintain the integrity of the compensation system.

Which employees should complete the Position Description Questionnaire (PDQ)?

All full time Administrative, Professional and Career employees and regular part-time career employees.

 

What are the most important sections employees should focus on within the PDQ?

Decision Making and Judgements

Can employees download the PDQ and handwrite their responses?Yes. It will then be the manager’s managers responsibility to upload the PDQ to the CARE project email.

What is the deadline for employees to complete the PDQ?

Employees should submit their PDQ to their direct manager no later than October 18, 2019.

Will any jobs be eliminated because of the project?

Neither job elimination nor reorganizations are within the scope of the CARE project.

Will employees have to reapply for their position when The CARE Project is finalized?

No.

Will my salary be reduced or increased because of this project?

The goal of the project is not to specifically increase or decrease anyone’s salary. However, realignment of jobs as assigned within a pay structure is a normal occurrence when establishing a new, market-driven compensationstructure. College leadership will review the data and the recommendations provided by the consultant and make appropriately timed salary adjustments, if needed.

Will the CARE Project address career paths?

One of the goals of this project is to create a better understanding of the progression of roles at FSCJ.

As a manager, what happens if one of my employees is on extended leave or FMLA or if there is a vacant position in my department?

The manager is responsible for completing the PDQ.

Can employees in the same position collaborate to complete the PDQ?

Yes, if they share the same direct manager and position title. Names of the employees who collaborated should be listed on the PDQ.

What information should be included in the Additional Comments section?

This section is used to list any information that was not captured within the PDQ that is important for the consultant to know. Some examples would include the supervising of contractors, student workers or temporary part time employees.
