Emergency Medical Technician (T.C.)

The Emergency Medical Technical Certificate is a limited access program that prepares students to function as entry level EMTs.

Program Overview

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Technical Certificate (T.C.) is a limited access program that prepares graduates to function as entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians. The program utilizes classroom instruction, hands-on skills labs and field experiences to train students to become emergency medical responders who respond to a variety of medical and trauma situations. Upon completion of the program, graduates are awarded a technical certificate and are eligible to apply to sit for the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification exam to qualify for certification as a Florida EMT. Graduates of the technical certificate program may elect to continue for the  Emergency Medical Services (EMS) (2251) (A.S.) degree.  

Emergency medical services (EMS) systems consist of many different components. EMT is the entry level for work in the EMS field as they provide basic life support and transportation for the sick and injured.

Program Outcomes

In addition to lab and lecture classes on campus, students will also complete clinical hours at University of Florida (UF) Health Jacksonville. Students will achieve field experience through an area ALS provider. Applicants are required to complete background checks, drug screenings and health physical exams upon acceptance to the program.

FSCJ’s North Campus emergency medical technician (EMT) program is approved as an EMT training program by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Medical Services, 4052 Bald Cypress Way, Tallahassee, FL, 32399, (850) 245-4440.

If you are considering employment in a state other than Florida, click here to ensure the program curriculum meets the requirements to sit for licensure or certification testing in that state.

Transcripts

Transcripts must be received from both high school/GED and any postsecondary education. They must be official and sealed directly from the awarding institution.
