Program Overview

Let us help you launch an exciting new career as a professional pilot with an Associate in Science (A.S.) in Professional Pilot Technology. Conveniently located at Cecil Airport on Jacksonville’s Westside, FSCJ’s Cecil Center provides an ideal location for your flight school education and flight training. Earn your degree and your wings through this top-notch aviation program. Our program includes flight training through a local Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) approved flight schools. You will be prepared for a career as a professional pilot with the knowledge, skills and FAA certificates and ratings required to start your aviation career. Students can move quickly from the classroom, to flight simulators, and then out to the flight line.

FSCJ is authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to approve graduates for the Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) certification at a reduced number of flight hours. Through FSCJ’s A.S. in Professional Pilot Technology, individuals interested in flying for the airlines can earn a 250-hour discount toward the 1,500 hours of flight time required to be eligible for the R-ATP certificate.

We also offer some of the lowest flight training tuition in the area and, for eligible Veterans, allow maximum use of GI Bill® benefits for flight education and training. Students may also qualify for financial aid or scholarships. If you want to pursue a bachelor’s degree after graduation, credits from your associate will degree transfer to many four-year aviation colleges and universities including Polk State College, Jacksonville University, or Embry-Riddle.

Note: Incoming students are NOT required to have a Private Pilot license prior to beginning the program and may start this training with FSCJ during their first semester before advancing to other ratings and certifications.

Program Notice

If you already hold pilot certificates and ratings, you may receive college credit for those certificates based on FSCJ’s evaluation of your certificate(s), training and competency. Once enrolled, all further flight training must be completed through an FSCJ contracted flight school.

You are required to go through orientation with FSCJ aviation staff, pass a flight physical with an FAA approved medical examiner and meet Transportation Security Administration requirements prior to flight training. For International Students, additional information is available at www.flightschoolcandidates.gov.
