How we became the Manta Rays

From a community-wide mascot search to the debut of Rayzor Ray, FSCJ’s newest tradition was shaped by thousands of voices.

The search begins
FSCJ invited the public to choose from 25 mascot candidates.
2023–24
The field narrows
Nearly 9,000 votes and 864 write-in names helped narrow the choices to Kraken, Manta Ray and Sea Dragon.
Feb. 2024
One final vote
The final public round drew nearly 20,000 votes from the FSCJ community and beyond.
May 9, 2024
The Manta Ray wins
FSCJ announced the Manta Ray as the College’s mascot during Commencement.
Sept. 17, 2024
Rayzor makes a splash
The mascot costume debuted on World Manta Day.
Oct. 21, 2024
Meet Rayzor Ray
Following nominations and voting, FSCJ officially revealed the name Rayzor Ray.
