Program Overview

The FSCJ Continuing Workforce Education Phlebotomy Technician Workforce Certificate program is designed to train individuals interested in the latest information, procedures, skills, standards, and equipment for safe, effective blood collection.

Our program includes both theory and hands-on instruction. You will learn medical concepts of Phlebotomy including Infection Control, Legal Issues in Healthcare, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Phlebotomy Equipment & Supplies, Phlebotomy Procedures, and Phlebotomy Fundamental Essentials. 

Our Phlebotomist program is broken up into two individual component courses. Students must complete the Basic Healthcare Worker and Phlebotomist courses to receive an FSCJ Continuing Workforce Education (CWE) Certificate of completion and be eligible to sit for the National Healthcare Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Exam.

CCE 0796 - Basic Healthcare Worker (Price: $429):

***Basic Healthcare Worker is the required pre-requisite for Phlebotomy. Basic Healthcare MUST be completed before enrolling in the Phlebotomy course.***

This 5-week course is an introduction to the healthcare environment, students training will focus on the healthcare team and delivery systems. You will learn and discuss topics including legal responsibilities, ethical issues, safety and security, information technology applications in healthcare, emergencies, infection control, communication, interpersonal behaviors, employability skills, blood-borne diseases, wellness, disease, and basic math and science. Please note that this course is also referred to as Healthcare Foundations. 

HED 0110 – Phlebotomist (Price: $1029) 

This 5-week course focuses on the essential and critical elements of Phlebotomy. Core areas of focus include Introduction and Safety in Phlebotomy, Basic Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Anatomy and Physiology of the Circulatory System. The course also dives into handling and maintaining Phlebotomy Equipment and supplies, reviewing Phlebotomy Procedures and techniques, and different challenges of Phlebotomy.

Finally, you will also review Sample Considerations, Special Procedures, Sample Preparation and Handling, Caring for the Pediatric Patient, and Legal and Ethical Issues in Healthcare.

The course includes in-person labs 3 days a week with an online lecture once weekly.

Course Availability: Classes are available during the Spring, Summer, and Fall terms.

Enrollment Policy: Please be aware that this class might be canceled if the minimum number of participants is not reached.
