The Associate in Science (A.S.) in Emergency Medical Services degree program is designed to graduate competent, caring providers who possess the critical thinking necessary to function as EMS providers. This A.S. degree program in EMS is a combination of general education and EMS courses. The mission of the Florida State College at Jacksonville Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program is the advancement of EMS through education. The faculty and stakeholders of the EMS program strive to keep ahead of the changing technology and look toward innovations in delivery of prehospital emergency medicine and educational theory. The EMS program is dedicated to develop diverse, timely and informative programs that challenge the student toward professional excellence.

Degree Options

There are two technical certificates available within this degree program: Emergency Medical Technician certification and Paramedic certification. These certificates will be earned during the pursuit of this degree program, which allow graduates to be prepared for paramedic jobs and emergency medical technician (EMT) jobs.

Career Opportunities

Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics care for the sick or injured in emergency medical settings. People’s lives often depend on the quick reaction and competent care provided by these workers. EMTs and paramedics respond to emergency calls, performing medical services and transporting patients to medical facilities (Bureau of Labor Statistics).
