Spring 2023 Data Summit

Connect with colleagues at the Achieve@FSCJ Spring 2023 Data Summit – Dashboards, Architecture and Outcomes…Oh My! The Data Summit will provide an in-depth review and analysis of the Student Services Dashboard and Architecture for Student Success to include Student Learning Outcomes. Each segment will highlight one or more student stories and include participant interaction demonstrating the practical application of the principles discussed.

Family Literacy Fair

Faculty, staff, students and the community are invited to our Family Literacy Fair on February 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at FSCJ North Campus. This event is intended to engage young readers from kindergarten to sixth grade. There will be book giveaways (while supplies last), story reading, snow cones, face painting and much more.

 

READ USA and the Jacksonville Public Library will also be in attendance to help the children and all participants celebrate and inspire the love of reading.

Student Success Awards

Faculty and staff are invited to nominate one to three students from your respective courses, academic programs, student organizations or workplace for the Celebration of Student Success.

 

Students may be selected from the Summer 2022, Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 Terms for the following categories:

Academic Achievement, Inspirational Achievement, Outstanding Student Worker, Outstanding Student Leadership. Click on the green button to submit your nominations via the online form.

Beyond the Big Screen

Beyond the Big Screen is our new, annual literary and film program. This year, the Series will focus on the science fiction novel, “The Martian,” by Andy Weir.

 

There will be art and essay contests and different engagement activities, including:

New Website Launch

We are excited to announce that the all-new FSCJ.edu is on track to launch on January 30! The redesign, a Six Sigma project which began in 2021 with Collegewide discussions and more than a year of development, is nearing completion. The result is a more dynamic, streamlined experience for site visitors.

 

Students will soon receive information about the coming launch to drive excitement and to let them know what to expect.

SACSCOC Reaffirmation Update

FSCJ is currently undergoing the ten-year SACSCOC reaffirmation process, which is comprised of four parts: off-site review, on-site review, SACSCOC Board of Trustees review, and the development and implementation of a quality enhancement plan (QEP).

 

Make note of the following important dates:

  • March 1, 2023 – FSCJ submits compliance certificate
  • Late April/Early May – Off-site review report returned
  • May 31, 2023 – SACSCOC VP virtual advisory visit
  • September 11, 2023 – Response reports and QEP due to on-site committee
  • October 23-26, 2023 – On-site visit
  • June 2024 – Review and decision by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees

 

Over the next few OnPoint calls, updates will be shared regarding various aspects of the reaffirmation process and the QEP.

 

Student Career Services Events

We’re excited to share two great career and internship opportunities for our students taking place in February. The IT Career Fair will be on Wednesday, February 22 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Advanced Technology Center, T-140/141, and our Culinary and Hospitality Career Day will be held Monday, February 27 from 2-5 p.m. at Downtown Campus, Building A. We’re looking forward to connecting students with local, regional and national employers.

January Recruitment Update

Happy New Year! We are excited to introduce our new Associate Director for Student Recruitment Nichole Harris. Nichole has been a valued member of our recruitment team for two years and is excited to begin her new leadership role.

 

She earned her bachelor’s degree from FSCJ in Information Technology and Telecommunications and is a Jacksonville native. Nichole enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, as well as playing adult league soccer in her spare time.

We are jumping right into 2023 and have a number of events coming up to help engage future students. If you know someone who is interested in joining the FSCJ family, be sure to send them our way at welcome@fscj.edu.

 

Faculty and Staff Accomplishments

Congratulations to Janice Van Delinder, one of our Dual Enrollment faculty for SLS1103 who also teaches at Yulee High School. She received the Governor DeSantis Excellence in Education Award for excellence in the classroom and her efforts teaching Native American History. The inaugural student and educator contest, offered through a collaboration between the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Volunteer Florida and the Department of Education, focused on the theme of “Celebrating the Achievements of Native American Floridians.” Read more.

As part of the division of Student Services, he leads the areas of residency records processing and enrollment coaching. His teams are focused on creating a more efficient and seamless application and enrollment process for new and returning students.
