What is the First-Generation Matching Scholarship?

The Florida First Generation Matching Grant Program (FGMG) provides scholarship funds for degree-seeking, resident, undergraduate students who demonstrate substantial financial need, and are enrolled in eligible participating postsecondary institutions. First Generation students have a parent(s) who has not earned a baccalaureate or higher degree.

The Florida Legislature has matched contributions to the First-Generation Matching Scholarship for several years. Currently the Legislature has appropriated a $2 match to every $1 contributed. Contributing to the First-Generation Matching Scholarship Fund allows you to make a larger impact with your gift, and support a highly represented group in our student body.

How much should I contribute?

Your gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. You determine the size and designation of your gift according to your own charitable priorities and capacity. Please know that all gifts are deeply appreciated.

The power of "I'M IN!" lies in our collective giving as employees and serves as a powerful endorsement of FSCJ to our alumni, donors and leaders in our community.

Gifts of $1.00 or more per paycheck may be made using the payroll deduction gift giving option.

Why is charitable support to FSCJ important?

FSCJ relies on a combination of revenue and philanthropic gifts to meet our budgetary needs. Each year, it becomes increasingly important for the College to fund a bigger portion of the budget through charitable gifts in order to decrease our reliance on tuition revenue. Charitable support is critical for helping our students achieve their goals and dreams. In 2020 the FSCJ Foundation made $1.46 million in scholarship funding available for students, $2.3 million for academic program support, and $577,000 in institutional support. This would not have been possible without the support of our donors.

Can I designate my gift?

Yes! You can choose an area of need to support (scholarships, program enhancements, workforce development, emergency student aid, or immersion projects), or or identify a specific fund. If you don't have a preference, we encourage you to choose the First Generation Scholarship fund, which matches each dollar you contribute with two dollars from the state of Florida, tripling the impact of your gift.

Does my contribution come out of my pay check before taxes?

No. Because your contribution is tax deductible, your contribution is made after tax. The Foundation will provide a receipt of all charitable contributions made in the that can be used as documentation for your income tax filing.
