Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits

Are you planning on using your veteran administration GI bill ® or Post-9/11 bill? Veteran students applying for Post-9/11 GI Bill ® benefits (Chapter 33) veteran affairs benefits must provide the College a certificate of veteran eligibility or a payment letter detailing eligibility percentage and time period. Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) will certify Chapter 33 benefits before receipt of this required document, but information must be received before payment from the Department of Veteran Affairs benefits (VA) can be applied to student’s account.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • You must provide either a certificate of eligibility or payment letter to the College.
  • Tuition will be paid directly to the College. Textbook funds and living allowances will pay directly to the student from the VA.
  • Students applying for Chapter 33 benefits are eligible for a VA deferment once per academic year for the percentage not covered by veterans administration benefits.
  • Changing your schedule could result in an overpayment/underpayment by VA which could impact your living allowance amount or the availability of benefits for subsequent terms.

The College will estimate the amount VA benefits expected to be paid. If VA fails to pay or pays a different amount, then the student is responsible and must pay the difference. Students identified as having applied for veterans benefits will have their payment deadline extended until the final payment due date for a session within a term. By the final due date, veteran students will be dropped unless tuition is paid, student has provided the necessary paperwork to be identified as eligible for Chapter 33 benefits equal to or in excess of the tuition amount due, or student has applied for a veteran deferment.

Veteran students applying for veteran educational benefits are eligible for one 60-day deferment of tuition per academic year. For additional information, visit tuition installment plans (TIPs) or download the brochure now:

Here’s what you need to know about veterans assistance:

  • Students can apply for a deferment in myFSCJ by clicking on "enroll in ecashier payment plan."
  • Students must provide a credit/debit card or bank account number when applying.
  • Deferments are automatically drafted from the account provided on the due date of the deferment.
  • Students must pay for tuition within 60 days regardless of whether benefits are received.
  • Students who do not pay deferment may be dis-enrolled and certification to VA rescinded. This could create a debt for the student with VA and a loss of benefits until resolved.

Students fraudulently providing bank information may be prohibited from receiving a deferment in subsequent academic years
