* Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the FSCJ Distance Learning department has undertaken a series of changes that may impact the way you take your remote exam. Distance Learning now offers remote testing options for select exams. Please continue to read for additional information.

If you are a Florida State College at Jacksonville student and you do not live in Nassau, Duval, St. Johns, Clay, Bradford, Union or Baker County you can benefit from Florida State College’s remote site assessment services. Please keep in mind that the COVID-19 Pandemic may prevent you from seeking services at other institutions. Therefore, FSCJ is currently providing remote testing though SmarterProctoring Automated Proctored services.

Scheduling a Remote Site Testing Session

Remote Online Course students can register for their course exams by logging into Canvas and selecting the course they wish to test for. Students will then click on the Smarter Proctoring Icon. You will need to register the first time you access the link and then follow the prompts to make your appointment.

Students must sign-in to their proctored sessions at least 15 minutes before their session starts. Anyone arriving late may not be allowed to test

All assessments require a current FSCJ college ID or a valid government issued identification. The usual forms are a Passport, State Driver License, or a Military ID.

For Remote students who need to complete Placement Testing, please review the Remote Placement (APS) Form. The form must be completed and submitted at least two weeks prior to the desired testing date. For assistance, please send an email to onlineremoteproc@fscj.edu requesting information on taking the college placement test as a remote student. You will receive a reply to your email request within two business days. Please note, students are responsible for any proctor fees charged by the remote site.

Please also ask about the Senate Bill 1720 exemption. Students may qualify for the exemption if they meet the following criteria:

Senate Bill 1720 Information - Effective November 2013 under SB 1720, if you entered the ninth grade in a Florida public school in 2003 or after, graduated from a Florida public high school with a standard Florida high school diploma, OR if you are a student who is serving as an active duty member of any branch of the U.S. Armed Services, you will not be required to take placement testing.

Choosing a Remote Site

If you would like to proceed in locating a remote site, remote site testing must be at a college, university or military Educational Services Offices (ESO). High schools and libraries are not acceptable remote testing sites. Test proctors must be authorized by the college or university to administer tests or in the case of ESO's, personnel must be assigned or appointed to the ESO department. The student is responsible for any fees charged by the approved remote test site or vendor.

Distance Learning Assessment Services must approve all remote testing sites prior to testing.

Suggested Remote Sites

  • Florida Colleges
  • National College Testing Association
  • Georgia Colleges
  • Tennessee Colleges and Universities
