Proctored testing enables the College to ensure that academic integrity is maintained during assessments for online courses. Federal regulations also require colleges and universities offering online and distance learning courses to verify student identity. Although all courses are being moved to an online format, not all courses will require proctored testing, please check with your instructor to determine if proctored testing will be required for your course. Though instructors may choose to use alternate testing strategies, they may also permit automated proctoring to ensure test security. Automated proctoring will help to prevent academic honor violations such as:
  • Collaborating with others during an exam
  • Copying or distributing test items to others
  • Testing by proxy
  • Using of unauthorized materials
No. The College has agreed to cover the SmarterProctoring™ testing fee for students through the remainder of the 2020 Spring Term.
It is suggested your computer meets the following requirements in order to have a successful experience using the SmarterProctoring™ Auto system.
  • Google Chrome web browser, version 74 or higher
  • Webcam (internal or external)
  • Microphone (internal or external)
  • Stable internet connect with at least 1 Mbps upload & download speeds

If you do not have the technology required to test using the automated proctoring system, testing using this system may not be possible. Please work with your course instructor if you are unable to secure the means to use the automated proctoring system. Your instructor may be able to explore alternate testing options.

To schedule an automated proctoring session through SmarterProctoring™, students must first log in to their Canvas course. Once you have logged into your course, select the SmarterProctoring™ link located in the quick links section of the course. If the SmarterProctoring™ link is unavailable in your course, your course instructor has not yet activated the link or your course may not require proctored testing. Please check with your instructor to determine if proctored testing is required and if SmarterProctoring™ is enabled. Beginning April 3, 2020 students will no longer be able to schedule ProctorU appointments from within their SmarterProctoring™ accounts. If you have scheduled an appointment prior to April 3, 2020 you will still be able to keep your appointment even if the appointment takes place after April 3, 2020. If you would prefer to switch to the SmarterProctoring™ system you may cancel your ProctorU appointment for a full refund provided you do so prior to your scheduled test date.
To begin your SmarterProctoring™ session, login to your Canvas course and select the SmarterProctoring™ link. Click the support button at any point before, during or after exams and a SmarterProctoring™ representative will be available to assist.
