The Career Employees' Council (CEC) is the representative voice for the Career employees of FSCJ, with the goal to be committed to the continuous development of a collaborative work environment whereby the value and respect of Career employees are elevated through increased recognition, involvement and opportunities to achieve a higher degree of excellence. In this spirit, we put a "spotlight" on one of our members each month.

October’s Career Employees' Council Spotlight recognizes Student Success Navigator Shannon Reid. For over two decades, Shannon has been a dedicated and familiar face at FSCJ, serving students and supporting her colleagues in multiple areas across the College. With 20 years of experience under her belt, Shannon currently works in Advising, Financial Aid and Admissions—three essential departments that put her in direct contact with students and their success every single day.

“My favorite part of the job is helping students,” Shannon shares. “Seeing them succeed and knowing I had a small part in their journey is incredibly fulfilling. And honestly, I’m lucky to work with the best coworkers anyone could ask for.”

As a member of the Career Employee Council (CEC), Shannon is passionate about fostering collaboration and communication between career employees and other employee groups across FSCJ and within the community.

“I love working with different departments to support students. When you take the time to learn what others do, it helps you better understand the bigger picture—and the mission and vision of the College as a whole.”

Shannon’s educational path reflects her drive and commitment to growth. She earned her Associate in Arts degree in 2011 and went on to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science in Digital Media from FSCJ in 2016. Most recently, in 2024, she earned her Master of Science in Information Technology with a concentration in Website Design from Southern New Hampshire University. Never one to back down from a challenge, Shannon is currently participating in the Lead from Where You Are program.

“It’s been a great opportunity to meet new people and stretch myself beyond my comfort zone,” she says. “It’s really helped me grow both personally and professionally.”

Outside the walls of FSCJ, Shannon continues to make a difference. She is a youth leader at her church and also serves as the Chair over the audio/visual and graphics ministry—a role that lets her blend her leadership skills with her creative talents.

When she’s not working or volunteering, Shannon enjoys spending time with her family and her seven godchildren. “Family is everything to me,” she says. “And when I’m not with them, I love creating graphics and making novelty gifts. It’s my creative outlet and keeps me inspired.”

With a heart for service, a passion for learning, and a deep love for her FSCJ community, Shannon Reid truly embodies the spirit of what makes the Career Employee Council—and the College as a whole—so strong.
