The Career Employees' Council (CEC) is the representative voice for the Career employees of FSCJ, with the goal to be committed to the continuous development of a collaborative work environment whereby the value and respect of Career employees are elevated through increased recognition, involvement and opportunities to achieve a higher degree of excellence. In this spirit, we put a "spotlight" on one of our members each month.

September’s Career Employees' Council Spotlight recognizes Project Coordinator Vanessa Gordon. Vanessa began working at FSCJ in September 2004 as a student assistant while earning her Associate in Arts. After graduating from FSCJ, she attended the University of Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication with a Minor in Communication Studies.

She returned to FSCJ in 2010 after her UF graduation and served as the advisor to the student newspaper, The Campus Voice. She later attended Chapman University in Orange, California to earn a Masters in TV and Film Producing.

Vanessa came back to FSCJ in May 2014, becoming Program Facilitator for the Continuing Education department where she became certified in Lean Six Sigma as a Green Belt.

In September 2017, she began working in FSCJ’s Online department as a Project Coordinator, assisting with the enrollment and concerns of students and with the behind-the-scenes duties of faculty and staff. What she likes most about her job is helping students find answers and solve their issues and relieving their concerns. Vanessa has met the objectives of the CEC by assisting the committees of fundraising, community engagement, recognition, employee enhancements and hiring in reaching their goals. Vanessa currently serves as the chair of the publicity committee and is always willing to add new members to her committee. “All committee Chairs are open and welcoming to members of the CEC joining their team,” she says.

Vanessa produces plays, short films and other projects in her spare time. She also teaches IDS and SLS courses at FSCJ. She is a Master Reviewer in Quality Matters. Vanessa enjoys reading, working on fun projects and attending University of Florida football games with her mother. When she is not working or at a sporting event, she is working on her dissertation to earn a Ph.D. in Communication.
