Associate in Applied Science

Computer Engineering Technology (Cisco CCNP Technician) (A373)

A CCNP’s basic job description may as well say “indispensable.” Cisco Certified Network Professionals (CCNPs) are the switch engines of cyberspace. They install, configure and troubleshoot local and wide area networks. They control the company’s network system, coordinate the technical needs of each department and oversee Internet, e-mail and other systems for internal and external communications.

The Program
Cisco certifications are among the most recognized and rewarded in the industry. Through this two-year engineering program, you can become a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Technician with expertise in internet-working and network support. The electives you choose will give you further experience with other platforms, hardware and operating systems. Skills in customer support and problem solving in a business environment are also emphasized. The coursework emphasizes hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment. This degree program includes eight courses in the Cisco Networking Academy.

Florida Community College partners with manufacturers and employers to develop a workforce certified by Oracle, Microsoft and Cisco. Our programs are designed to match industry demands and provide the training to ensure you’re ready for the job.

Courses in this program are offered both days and evenings. Technical certificates, Cisco CCNA (6273), Computer Specialist (Cisco CCNP) 6275 and Computer Forensics Specialist (6937), are included as options within this degree program. Students may choose to pursue an A.A.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificate programs to develop or upgrade their skills in a particular field. Contact an advisor or counselor to determine the career education path that is best for you.

Students may complete a degree in only one of the two specialty tracks, Cisco CCNP or Computer Technician. Students who wish to add a second area of specialization after completing a degree should pursue a technical certificate in that area. Students who have completed the Network Support Services (5670) certificate program may apply to have their coursework evaluated for college credit and applied to these programs.

An internship is included to help you obtain the real-world experience hiring managers value. Students who have extensive work experience may apply to have their work evaluated to fulfill the internship requirement.

Career Opportunities, Rapid Placement
Florida Community College is the regional resource for employers in every type of technology. Annual Salaries
Growth is expected to be much faster than average. Prospects are best for college graduates up to date with the latest skills, and some work experience is a plus. The average salary in this field is $61,000, but annual earnings can range from $40,000 to $110,000, plus executive benefits.

This program will prepare you for Cisco’s CCNA and CCNP certification exams, as well as A+ and Network+ certifications..

Application Procedure
To apply you must have an official high school transcript or a copy of your high school equivalency degree. Students are admitted in the fall and spring terms. You must meet with the instructor or program director before enrolling in courses.
