Administrative Assistant (Office Supervision) (5653)

You can build a successful career as an administrative assistant, file clerk, general office clerk or secretary through this well-rounded program. You will acquire broad, transferable skills and a thorough understanding of topics which are essential in office support services: planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labor, community, as well as health, safety and environmental issues. This program also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in any of these occupations.

Career Opportunities, Rapid Placement
Florida Community College partners with leading commercial and medical organizations through out Northeast Florida to develop talent that matches their growth projections. Business leaders give master classes on our campuses, hold presentations and job fairs.

This program provides on-campus, real-world experience and job exposure to help you enter or advance in the job market the moment you graduate. FCCJ graduates have a track record of rapid placement. Opportunities are especially strong in customer service, hospital administration, law firms, religious organizations, real estate firms, government offices, car dealerships, hotels, schools, sports teams, and libraries, transportation, and manufacturing.

Annual Salaries
Entry level salaries in a general office position begin at about $20,000 and can go to the mid-$30,000s with experience.

The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is a major criterion in a student’s completion of the program. Students who fail to meet the State of Florida’s designated exit score will be required to complete the Vocational Preparatory Instruction (VPI). In order to complete the program successfully, students must achieve or surpass the designated exit score(s). See Standards of Academic Progress.

Students enrolled in this program may be required to enroll in basic skills training. This will be determined by their scores on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Students should be advised by the instructor or the program manager before enrolling in courses.

Upon completion of the program, these workforce certificate credits are transferable toward the Office Administration (2265) associates degree program. Students must take 9 credit hours in the associate degree program before the transfer is made. See program manager (below) for more information.

Estimated tuition is $2,037 (for Florida residents, as of 7/06). Estimated cost for books and materials is $500.
