Commencement 2020 Update

We have partnered with WJXT-Channel 4 to highlight our registered graduates in an hour-long special segment that will be aired on June 13, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. The segment will include messages from administrators, faculty, staff and students honoring the graduates' accomplishments. Graduate names will also be listed in a slideshow presentation to recognize their hard work.

As a reminder, the Virtual Commencement Ceremony will be posted online at fscj.edu/commencement on July 2 at 4 p.m. The Adult Education Graduation will be posted online at fscj.edu/aegraduation on July 9 at 6 p.m.

Graduates have been receiving their commemorative commencement boxes via mail to help celebrate the big day! Additionally, Dr. Avendano and Student Services staff members recently held a pick-up event where they distributed cords to students graduating with honors for their service as veterans and through various clubs and organizations.

Return to Campus Plan

The Return to Campus Plan will serve as a guide as we prepare for our return to onsite operations this summer.

As Dr. Avendano mentioned in his email, the planning process will remain fluid until we are able to move past the pandemic. As changes are made to the plan, decisions will be made in a timely manner to leave as much preparation time as possible.

Virtual Admissions Events

In an environment where engagement with future students and the community continues to shift online, the Office of Recruitment and Admissions has answered the call by creating Virtual Admissions events. These events center around three main sessions: College and Career Exploration, Why FSCJ?, and Let’s Talk About Money.

Each live session has the opportunity for Q&A and provides invaluable information for students who are considering FSCJ for college and their families. Additionally, FSCJ programs have had the opportunity to spotlight their academic offerings to future students.

To learn more about each session and upcoming dates and times, visit visit.fscj.edu. If you would like more information about hosting an event for your program, please reach out to Jackie Kloin, associate director of recruitment, at j.kloin@fscj.edu.

Program Partner Spotlight: Homer Treat

Homer Treat is a contractor for a worldwide IT and networking solutions company. Over the past 24 years, he has placed more than 100 students from FSCJ's Network Systems Technology Associate in Science (A.S.) program into jobs at major financial institutions throughout Jacksonville.

Professor Cheryl Schmidt works closely with Mr. Treat to recommend students who are about to graduate from the program. Several of the students that Mr. Treat has placed have even gone on to become vice presidents and hold other upper-level leadership positions.

He believes that graduates from FSCJ's Network Systems Technology program are successful in the jobs that he places them into because of their passion for the field, willingness to be challenged and their positive attitude.

When asked what makes graduates from FSCJ stand out, he said, "This is more than just a college program. FSCJ goes the extra mile to give students the foundation they need to help them be successful in their field. This is readily apparent in the FSCJ students that I have placed for employment."
