Return to Campus Plan

The Return to Campus Plan is serving as our guide as we prepare for our return to onsite operations. Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, adjustments have been made to the phased-in return plan in order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our faculty, staff, students and community. The phases have been modified to address the current trends in our community and the educational and training needs taking place on campus. The most recent version of the plan can be found on or by clicking on the button below.

GEAR UP Summer Camps Go Virtual

Each year, our Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Potential (GEAR UP) program looks forward to hosting students from Duval County Public Schools for summer camp. Due to COVID-19, the camps were forced to shift to a fully online format this year but they are proving to be no less fun and educational for participants.

Each session of the six-week camp features a different theme, all with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

Week 1: Architecture – Led by FSCJ Professor Dr. Andreia Thaxton-Simmons, students learned about prominent architects including those who had an influence here in our community.

Week 2: Science/Energy – Students participated in engineering design activities around speed and propulsion.

Week 3: Art – Students explored their mind, body and spirit through multimedia art activities. (Pictured at right is a camper's self-portrait.)

Weeks 4 and 5: Taught by MAD-learn, students will learn how to develop an app and will present their creation to judges to win prizes.

Week 6: Travel and COVID19 – Students will talk about traveling and handling COVID-19 by making their own no-sew mask and hand sanitizer.
