August 2020

Convocation 2020

Although it is bittersweet, we are excited to host our very first virtual Convocation Ceremony on Thursday, August 27. We know it won’t be the same as gathering together face-to-face, sharing breakfast and enjoying each other’s company, but we hope it will be a unique and memorable experience.

We are thrilled to welcome back Professor Joe LaBarbera as our emcee…and you all know, if Joe’s there…it’s going to be a great time. We will learn about exciting Collegewide initiatives to better serve our students and employees and will hear from a panel of our esteemed colleagues on some of the most relevant and sensitive topics facing us today. Please make sure you participate and engage with us by answering the very important poll questions that will be asked during the ceremony.

To view the ceremony, you will need to go to Please tune in by 8:45 a.m. to make sure your internet, computer and speakers are working. The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. and we do not want anyone to miss it. We anticipate the ceremony will conclude by 10:30 a.m. to allow for a break before the Academic Plenary Session at 11 a.m.

A digital program will be emailed to all employees on the morning of the ceremony, so be sure to look for that. If you have any questions, email

BRIDGES to Launch Student Climate Survey

During the Fall Term, BRIDGES: A Title III Strengthening Institutions Program, will launch the College's first comprehensive student climate survey. FSCJ is committed to capturing student voices and the survey will help us learn more about our students’ attitudes, habits and behaviors. Survey results will highlight strengths and provide actionable data for areas of opportunity for growth.

The survey will help us meet our goal of providing a safe, equitable and inclusive learning environment for all students. We can use these results to improve students' engagement, learning conditions and overall environment now and for future FSCJ students, so please help us encourage participation.

The survey will run from September 21 to November 1. Responses will be completely anonymous and confidential. Students who complete the survey may be eligible to win one of the 40 cash prizes provided by the FSCJ Foundation.
