UPDATE: COVID-19 Delays Citizens-FSCJ IT Training Program
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 health concerns, and to safeguard the health and safety of students, instructors, Citizens employees and our community, Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) and Citizens have decided to delay the launch of this innovative, customized IT learning opportunity.
We will share updated information about this program as it becomes available.
Citizens Property Insurance Corporation and Florida State College Jacksonville (FSCJ) are working together to develop a customized learning opportunity tailored for students interested in pursuing a career in the insurance industry. These positions include Application Development and IT Risk and Security.
To meet these needs, in addition to providing the opportunity to be formally certified in CompTIA Security+ and Microsoft Azure fundamentals, this training program between Citizens and FSCJ is designed to prepare students for positions such as Application Development and IT Risk and Security. Students who successfully complete the prescribed four-course curriculum may be eligible for a paid internship and/or potential employment opportunities at Citizens, depending upon need and vacancy.
The program is open to current and prospective FSCJ students.
- Information Security (CompTIA Security+)
Approximate course duration 54 hrs.
Today, information security knowledge and expertise are critical skills for success in any technology career. This course teaches essential security concepts and best practices in a way that not only prepares students to successfully pass the CompTIA Security+ Certification exam, but also helps students gain understanding that facilitates delivering technical and business value when facing real-world security challenges. Topics addressed include techniques and methods to configure, monitor and troubleshoot systems used to mitigate risks associated with threats ranging from malware to improper network configurations.
- Object Oriented Programming Concepts and GOSU Programming Language
Approximate course duration 30 hrs.
Students will begin by learning the foundational Object-Oriented programming Concepts and then applying it using GOSU programming language. This course includes general programming concepts, Object and Functional Programming paradigms, working with Collections and other data structures using GOSU. This course also introduces students to develop algorithmic thinking, writing scalable programs using multi-threading and introduction to common design patterns. Students will strengthen their skills by applying the concepts using hands-on graded exercises and project work.
- Azure Fundamentals
Approximate course duration 8 hrs.
The Azure fundamentals course will provide foundational level knowledge of cloud computing and the services that are provided by using Microsoft version of cloud: Microsoft Azure. This course is considered a first step in learning about cloud services and Microsoft Azure. In addition to the Azure specific items, the course will teach general cloud computing models and services, like the differences between Public, Private and Hybrid cloud and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). This course will also cover Azure Services, Solutions, Security, Privacy, Compliance, and billing.
- Agile Fundamentals
Approximate course duration 6 hrs
This course will provide basic understanding of Agile methodology, principles, frameworks and practices. The course will help students build foundation agile skills applied widely in today’s world of digital organizations. Students will gain understanding of evolution of software development methodology from Waterfall to Agile and its benefits to organizations.
