Are your Friendly? Set up your friendly name to access new resources.

It’s More Than Just a Name.

Your friendly name is your key to new tech resources.

Are you friendly? If you are, you are one of the 238 1,250 Florida State College at Jacksonville employees who have set up friendly names as of today. If you aren’t, you may be asking yourself, “what’s a friendly name and what’s the point?”

A friendly name is a new way of sharing your college e-mail address. Instead of using your actual account information, you can start using your real name or even a nickname as your e-mail address (certain restrictions apply). If you’ve got one of those IDs that leaves off a letter or two of your last name, you know how useful this could be.

Once you’ve set up your friendly name, you will still receive all mail sent to your former address. That means there’s no pressure to inform anyone of the change. You can simply start using your new address as you move forward.

New Web Space

When you set up your friendly name, a new personal web space will automatically be made available to you. This space will be on a new machine that will be replacing the one that currently houses our faculty/staff websites (the ones with addresses that begin with www1.fccj.org or web.fccj.org). That older machine will be taken offline during spring break 2012, and sites that haven’t been migrated before then will become permanently unavailable.

Setting up your friendly name now won’t take your current site offline. It will remain accessible until spring break, but acting soon will allow you up to five months to make the move or to create a new site. You can call on your campus Faculty Resource Center for assistance, and we'll be making more resources available to you on this website.

If you choose not to create a website, your web address will link to your public profile. Inversely, if you do create a website, you can easily share your new address on your public profile.

New Blog Space

We’re making the switch to WordPress, a better blog platform than our current solution. Setting up your friendly name will be the first step to getting your new blog up and running because the new blog addresses will be based on friendly names.

Get Friendly

If you’re ready to get friendly, logon to Artemis and click “Public Profile Management” in the Personal Information box. There’s also a video tutorial to guide you in the process. While you’re at it, you can also take a moment to show you’re really friendly by uploading a photo of yourself.

If you'd like assistance setting up your friendly name and website, please contact your campus Faculty Resource Center or Learning Innovations at li@fscj.edu or (904) 997-2939.
