Get Jazzed Up with Grammy Nominee Bobby Shew at FSCJ South Campus Jazz Festival April 21

By Michael Corby Thu, April 19, 2012 5:01 pm EDT

Here’s a can’t-miss event for jazz fans: Join us at the Wilson Center on Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. for the Jazz Festival featuring Guest Artist and Grammy Nominee Bobby Shew. FREE & Open to the Public!

Gear up for the Jacksonville Jazz Festival with a free concert featuring the Florida State College at Jacksonville Jazz Ensemble I (directed by Professor John Thomas) and the Jazz Ensemble II (directed by Professor Paul Weikle). Special guest: Jazz Trumpet Artist Bobby Shew,  veteran of famous big band orchestras, lead trumpeter for numerous pop stars, heard on the theme songs and soundtracks of TV shows and movies.  His album, "Outstanding In His Field" was nominated for a Grammy in 1980, while "Heavy Company" was awarded the Jazz Album Of The Year in 1983. In spite of Shew's busy performing and private teaching schedule, he spends a considerable amount of time actively involved in the educational system, conducting clinics and master classes at high schools and college campuses all over the world. This week he's worked with the Jazz Ensembles at Florida State College at Jacksonville. The concert is the culmination of the Ensembles' special sessions with this master.

Free and open to the public. No reservations necessary.
