I had the honor of sitting down and talking to Dr. Dana Thomas, Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, about her book Paws and Smell The World. It is a coffee table book filled with stories and black and white photos of dogs.
Once she got her English bulldog, Dozer, about nine years ago she was inspired to write the short stories. They are about the relationships between dogs and their owner. She feels having an animal companion can lead to understanding things like love and perseverance.
So, how did she come up with the title? According to Dr. Thomas, “We did a little play on words and paws is the same thing as pause. So stop and smell the roses, Paws and Smell the World is something that dogs do all the time, is sort of how I came up with the idea.”
She has been writing for decades and has published many novels but this is her first contract with a major publishing company. It was released in 2009 by Bowtie Publishing.
