Transfer Services
University Academic Learning Compacts (ALCs)
Academic Learning Compacts (ALCs) are a new strategy for the assessment of student learning outcomes that has been implemented in Florida’s state university system. ALCs are statements of student learning outcomes in three major areas: communication, critical thinking, and discipline-specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes. ALCs:
- must state what and how communication skills, critical thinking skills, and content knowledge in the discipline will be measured
- must be made available to current and prospective students
- will be used as the basis for certifying, through a process approved by each university’s Board of Trustees, that graduates have met the established criteria
Transfer students from community colleges will be expected to have begun building capacity for critical thinking and communication skills through satisfaction of associate degree General Education Requirements, in order to help prepare them for ALCs in their university programs.
