Post -9/11 GI Bill Benefits Update

Important Notice: Post-9/11 GI Bill

Due to the implementation of the Aug. 1, 2011 changes to Veterans Administration (VA) regulations for Post-9/11– Chapter 33 benefits, we have been informed by the VA that if your summer term classes begin prior to Aug. 1, 2011 and will complete after Aug. 1, 2011, VA benefits for housing, books, tuition and fees will be delayed. VA will not start processing benefits for those sessions/terms until June 2011.

What does that mean? If you are enrolled in any of the following sessions, you will not receive your housing and/or books stipend until the VA office starts processing claims in June 2011.

  • Session A16, Term Dates: May 9-August 26
  • Session B12, Term Dates: June 6-August 26
  • Session C8, Term Dates: July 5-August 26
  • Session D4, Term Dates: August 1-August 26

Until this issue is resolved, students enrolled in multiple sessions will receive funds for those classes that end prior to Aug. 1, 2011.

Direct all questions concerning payment to the VA Regional Office at 1-888-442-4551, press 1 then zero (0) to speak to an operator. Florida State College staff can only verify that your enrollment has been processed to VA.

Note: If you are enrolled in a session that starts or overlaps Aug. 1, 2011, your VA benefits will not be processed by VA until June 2011.

Active duty military, disabled veterans and families of fallen veterans have their own financial aid programs paid for by the federal government.
