Herbert W. Scheidel Community Leadership in Action Award Guidelines
The Herbert W. Scheidel Community Leadership in Action award was inspired by the life and legacy of Herb Scheidel. It recognizes and encourages emerging leaders within the Jacksonville community who go above and beyond to positively impact the lives of others. This recognition will be awarded annually to a currently enrolled student of Florida State College at Jacksonville who has taken action to expand the opportunities of those who are less fortunate by volunteering with exceptional service at a nonprofit agency located in the Florida State College at Jacksonville service area.
The volunteer service should demonstrate a significant impact on the agency or population served, such as by increasing a program's services or capacity through the nominee's leadership. The individual should also be passionate about continuing their volunteer service. Nominated students must have been enrolled at Florida State College at Jacksonville and seeking a degree or certificate during the time in which the volunteer service was performed. Candidates are selected through a nomination process and self-nomination is allowed.
Submission Guideline
The application must include:
(1) Leadership In Action Nomination Award Form (2) One-page description of nominee's contribution to the agency that includes volunteer hours and why student is deserving of the award, (3) A letter of support from the executive director of the nonprofit agency, and (4) An unofficial Florida State College at Jacksonville transcript.
