Accelerated College
Do you have what it takes to accelerate?
Florida State College responds to your needs as a busy professional by allowing you to complete your college degree faster, more efficiently, and with less cost than the traditional semester system. Our accelerated college program makes it possible for learners to take advantage of two key methods of acceleration: credit for prior learning and shorter-length courses.
Depending on what you already know, you may gain college credit for your knowledge and skills and reduce the number of courses needed for your degree. By applying your life and work skills, you may be able to complete courses in less than the traditional 16-week semester.
It’s not for everyone. It may be for you.Credit for Prior Learning
If you have experience in the subjects offered by Florida State College, you may be able to gain credit for what you’ve already learned. It’s called Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) and can be achieved through various methods.
Portfolio Development
We can teach you how to assemble a portfolio that documents your learning as it applies to a specific course. The portfolio will then be evaluated by a qualified faculty member to see if it merits college credit.
Credit by Examination
Demonstrate what you already know through assessments, such as:
- College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
- DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST)
- Excelsior Exams
- College Course Challenge Exams (CCCE)
Credit for ACE-approved Training
Florida State College may award college credit for employer-sponsored training and certifications based on the American Council on Education’s (ACE) national guidelines when applicable to your program of study. This includes evaluation of corporate training, certificates, and/or apprenticeship programs which may lead to college credit.
Credit for Military Experience
Florida State College works closely with veterans to ensure that the maximum amount of credit may be awarded for military courses and training.
Save Time and Money
Maximizing credit for prior learning, along with online and eight-week courses, saves you time and money without sacrificing quality. Accelerate to a bachelor’s degree at Florida State College or elsewhere knowing that our associate degrees are fully accredited and transferable to any public Florida state college or university.
Is it right for you? These are just a few of the ways Florida State College can help you accelerate your degree plans. To see if these or other options are right for you, contact one of our academic advisors and ask about credit for prior learning and other accelerated options.
