Transient

If you’re currently enrolled at another college or university and want to take classes as a guest student at FSCJ, you can register as a transient student. You’ll be able to earn college credits and transfer them back to your home institution. Be sure to obtain approval from your college or university before pursuing transient enrollment at FSCJ.

We encourage you to learn more about class modalities and available course offerings. Be sure to check out the information below to register for classes correctly. If you have questions, please reach out to us at (904) 646-2300.

Incoming Transient Students

Students who are attending another state college/university but want to take course(s) on a temporary basis at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) are considered incoming transient students. Incoming transient students must obtain approval from their home institution prior to enrolling in courses at FSCJ to ensure transferability of credits back to their home institution.

If your home institution is a Florida public institution, you will need to apply via FloridaShines.org. If you are unsure if your institution is a Florida public institution, please visit FloridaShines.org for further information.

Before Applying in Florida Shines:

  1. Select the course(s) you want to take from the FSCJ online class schedule. To determine if a course requires prerequisites, search course via the FSCJ online Catalog.
  2. Contact an academic advisor at your home institution to ensure course transferability.

After discussing transient enrollment with your Academic Advisor at your home institution:

      3. Log into FloridaShines.org to complete the Transient Student Admission Application. The completed application will electronically submit to your home institution for approval.
     4. After all required areas of your home institution approve the application, it will then be routed electronically to FSCJ for processing.

Note: Check the status of your application at any time by logging into FloridaShines.org. It may take up to 10 days, on average, for the home and transient institutions to complete the application process.

If your home institution is a private Florida institution or out of state institution, you will need to obtain an approval letter from your home institution.

3. Submit an FSCJ admissions application.
4. Submit your completed approval letter with your application.

Completed approval letters must contain the students’ name, approved term, approved course(s), approved institution, and must be signed by the approving department/advisor.

Please note that all transient requests must be submitted by the start of C session classes of each term.

Once your application has been completely processed, you will receive an email that states your Student ID number and your next steps. Tuition and fees must be paid by the advertised payment due dates.
