If you would like to take as many of your bachelor's degree courses at the affordable Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) tuition rates, this type of agreement might be helpful to you.

A 3 + 1 agreement maximizes a student's time at FSCJ. Students who earn an Associate of Arts (A.A) or an Associate of Science (A.S) degree can satisfy the first two years of coursework associated with the university's baccalaureate degree programs and will be recognized as having achieved junior status. Twelve to 30 additional credits are also completed at FSCJ, so that the student only completes the senior year (approximately 30 to 45 credit hours) at the university. The additional coursework can be completed at the FSCJ tuition rate. Typically the university accepts transfer credits for all of the coursework, up to a maximum of 90 semester hours toward fulfillment of university core requirements and toward the university degree requirements.

Please check with an FSCJ advisor for more information about the 3 + 1 articulations in order to find out if this opportunity is best for you, and to discuss the specific steps for participation.

If you are interested in transferring into a specific major, first select the major and then choose the college/university that offers your selected major. Clicking on the college/university will take you to the institution's website.

If you would like to participate in the 3 + 1 program, please follow these steps:

  1. Meet with an FSCJ advisor;
  2. Consult an FSCJ advisor to determine when the 3 + 1 Program of Study Code (31XXX) and Major Code (6 digits) for the specific university should be added to your student record. (Generally we advise that this should be added as your primary program objective if you have already completed your associate degree. If you have not completed your associate degree yet, this should be added as your secondary program objective);
  3. Confirm the list of approved classes that the university would like you to take at FSCJ (if the university has specified a list of courses for your major, you should find a list of those courses at the links below, but we recommend that you confirm that list with an advisor from the partner university);
  4. Apply to the 3 + 1 partner institution (see list below) in the specific 3 + 1 major (the B.S., B.A. or B.A.E. indicated below). The student should indicate on the application that they are pursuing the 3 + 1 articulation between FSCJ and XX university; (if the student is applying to Nova Southeastern University, please contact Brooke Goehring at br461@nova.edu or (904) 245-8919 ext. 6675 at the local NSU student educational center to discuss the applications process and appropriate application timelines).
  5. After consulting with both university and your designated FSCJ advisor, start registering, paying and enrolling for FSCJ classes. We recommend that you register four to six weeks prior to the start of the term. You are responsible for paying for the courses prior to FSCJ’s payment due dates.
  6. Send your transcript periodically to the university, and contact your advisor there to make sure you are taking the correct courses each semester.

If you are seeking financial aid for the additional coursework, please check with an FSCJ advisor for more information about the 3 + 1 articulation to discuss the specific steps for participation and possible financial aid options.

*Northcentral University does not offer standard Title IV financial aid. NCU offers students the option to participate in payment plans and assistance in seeking loans. Therefore, students participating in the 3 + 1 program with FSCJ and NCU would be responsible for paying for the additional semester hours at FSCJ (beyond the associate degree).

Tips on transferring to a college without an articulation agreement

Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) so many FSCJ courses should transfer to colleges and universities across the United States. However, it is up to each individual school to decide what courses they will and won't accept, especially if you transfer to a school outside of the state of Florida. If you are interested in transferring to an institution that FSCJ does not have an articulation agreement with, the first step would be to contact that school. The Admissions or Registrar staff should be able to tell you about their transfer policy. They may ask to see a copy of FSCJ's course descriptions to get an idea about the course. FSCJ's catalog is available online so the school can easily reference course information. Once you complete the courses you would need to request an official copy of your FSCJ transcript.

If you are interested in an FSCJ Program of Study or a college/university major that is not listed, please contact an FSCJ advisor for more information.
