Florida Residency

All students who apply to FSCJ must complete a Residency Declaration form as part of the application process. This form is available in the student’s application portal, found at apply.fscj.edu.

A Florida resident for tuition purposes is a person who has, or a dependent person whose parent or legal guardian has, established and maintained legal residency in Florida for at least twelve (12) consecutive months preceding the first day of classes of the term for which Florida residency is sought.

A student who classifies as a Florida Resident will pay a lower tuition rate than the out-of-state rate.  

Step 1: Determine Dependency Status:

  • If you will be 24 years of age or older by the start of your first term, you will use your own documents.
  • If you are under 24 years of age by the start of your first term, you will be considered a dependent and will use your parent or legal guardian’s information.
  • If you are under 24 years of age but can prove independent status from one of the following you will use your own documents:
    • Married
    • Claimed Dependents
    • Military Veteran
    • Earnings (Half of Cost of Attendance)
    • Foster youth or homelessness

Step 2: Submit appropriate documentation:

Student will submit appropriate documentation within the FSCJ application portal.
